A SENSE OF PLACE

MARCH 4TH - APRIL 14TH

FOUR BRUSHSTROKES ARTIST COLLECTIVE

The theme of the exhibition is based on 'A Sense of Place'. There will be a selection of paintings based on surrounding locations, also portraits and subjects that have invoked a sense of place to the artist.

“People develop a "sense of place" through experience and knowledge of a particular area. A sense of place emerges through knowledge of the history, geography and geology of an area, its flora and fauna, the legends of a place, and a growing sense of the land and its history after living there for a time.
Dr. Thomas A. Woods

Brendan O’Neill

A particular moment can give me a sense of place: a tree, a barn, a smile, the wink of an eye that can’t be seen, or maybe the side of a mountain or a bowl of fruit in your granny’s. All our memories are whatever images remain with us.

Mary Scott

My paintings have a story to tell. They give me a sense of place in the world and reflect an integral part of who I am. The stories are about a sense of belonging and the love of places and beauty were you can appreciate the natural process of life.

Nicky Hore

Some places heighten your senses. In these paintings I remember certain images that give me a sense of place as I recall special moments that made me stop and reflect where I was.

Grainne Kavanagh

Being away from home, having a sense of place is important to me. Memories of home are stronger and help invigorate my art.
